Early retirement benefit win!
Posted May 19, 2021
After WSNA filed an unfair practice charge against Skagit for making a unilateral change to the early retirement benefit program, we learned yesterday that Skagit will NOT discontinue the program. WSNA commends the Hospital for maintaining the program for the nurses at Skagit.
We celebrate this victory! Please look for the general announcement of this in your weekly Wednesday update. WSNA elected officers continue to advocate for all nurses at Skagit.

Contract negotiations update
We completed session number 4 on May 17, 2021. Here is a recap of how the day transpired.
- We tackled the issue of staffing. We told the Hospital that staffing is a critical issue for us and that we believe the Hospital isn’t taking our reports of staffing violations seriously. Management said it would “get back” to us.
- We opened dialogue about the cumbersome method of recording missed breaks and lunches and addressed the “no retaliation” clause. Nurses should not be counseled on “time management” when Management has failed to staff properly.
We were able to reach several Tentative Agreements (TA) on various issue including clarifying seniority, providing for annual TB tests, per diem nurse scheduling, and removal of discipline documents from personnel records after two years.
What's Next?
We would love to see you proudly wearing those buttons, so we have a special ask for our next session. Please again button up for our next negotiations day Thursday, May 27. And again, snap a pic without hospital or patient identifiers in the background and send to one of your officers or Sue Dunlap at sdunlap@wsna.org. We felt the love and support from our partners in UM department today! Thank you, Terry and Kristen!
Please contact either your nurse representative Sue Dunlap or WSNA Organizer Annie Mansfield, AMansfield@wsna.org , if you need buttons to pass out to your co-workers for our next session. Please note it is your legal right to wear that button. If a manager asks you to remove your button, respectfully ask if you will be disciplined if you do not remove it. If they respond yes, please remove it but promptly let your union representative know.
Please reach out to any of your team members for any questions or concerns. Your team is here for YOU!
