Sign the Petition: Tell MultiCare to Bring Back our Break Nurses!
Posted Sep 16, 2024
Make sure to tell your coworkers to sign this petition to demand MultiCare give us back our break nurses! You can print out the QR code below and put it on your union board for people to scan, or you can find the petition on the website. We almost went on strike last year to win these break nurses -we're committed to escalate until MultiCare comes through on their commitments.
Consecutive Weekend Grievance
In March WSNA filed the grievance when Good Sam stopped paying CWW (Consecutive Weekend Worked) for nurses picking up extra weekend shifts to help the needs of the unit. It has been a long past practice in most departments to pay this. Through the steps of the grievance process, Management refuses to acknowledge that this is a contract violation. We met for mediation on September 13 with our WSNA attorney, WSNA Nurse Rep and 4 nurses representing the grievance. On the Good Sam side was a Multicare attorney and Labor Manager. Unfortunately, even with the use of a Federal Mediator, both sides were unable to come to an agreement or settlement on this issue. Next step - this grievance will be brought forward to a Federal Arbitrator, who will rule on the issue and that ruling will be final.
What can you do? Help us collect data which could be used for the Arbitration.
- Did you receive CWW pay for extra weekend pick up shifts which you offered to do to help the needs of the unit? Which unit and what was the general time frame that this practice occurred? How many years back did this practice occur?
- Were you denied CWW pay for extra weekend pick up shifts? Do you have the correspondence denying you?
- Are you from a unit which historically has not offered CWW for extra pick up shifts? Which unit?
- Do you have a copy of management emails or texts which have either offered CWW or denied CWW for extra weekend pick up shifts?
Please send your responses to JStewart@wsna.org.
Break MOU Grievance
This group grievance began at Step 2 on August 29th. Management has requested an extension to respond, NLT September 26th. We can only hope they are using this extra time to do the right thing and return our break nurse hours back to us. In the meantime, we need the bargaining unit nurses to continue our actions to let management know that we need our break nurses back and that we will NOT back down.
- We've handed out over 200 WSNA T-Shirts. WEAR THEM on BLUE FRIDAY. Take pics and post on our WSNA Good Sam Social Media pages.
- More T-shirts coming; will announce when the Smalls and Mediums arrive.
- Wear your "Break for Safety" buttons, stickers and temporary tattoos.
- Attest your missed breaks on Kronos; on the unit break tracking sheet; and ADOs
- Take part in signing the PETITION and encourage all bargaining unit nurses to sign.
Turn the fair WSNA BLUE
Thanks to the nurses who wore their WSNA T-Shirts at the Fair on MultiCare Fair Days. Nurses handed out fliers to the community to let them know how MultiCare is violating our contract by denying us break nurse shifts. A flier was handed to MultiCare CEO Bill Robertson (see pic below) and VP Laura Edwards at the gate. They are well aware of this issue facing us. When the group took the fliers just inside the gate to hand them out; Bill had us moved back to the outside of the gate as this was "against Fair policy."
Bill Robertson: Hi, how are you doing?
Atalia: I'd be better if I had a break nurse, what's up with that?
Bill Robertson: Here have a bracelet.
Federal Student Loan Repayment Program is BACK for New Applicants
Thank you for bringing it to our attention that new applicants to the Federal Student Loan Repayment were being turned away.
According to Good Sam Labor & Employee Relations Manager, "I confirmed with our system group that there were some changes for eligibility for some groups within the system. WSNA was included in those changes in error. This has been corrected, and employees should be able to submit normally again. We apologize for any inconvenience."
Apply on the MultiCare Intranet under Employee Resource Center. The link to Guild and the Instructions are there. Please let us know if you are still having any issues with this.
