Contract bargaining update

Your WSNA team of registered nurses has met with UWMC Montlake administration and management for a 5th bargaining session on Tuesday, May 18.

All the major takeaways proposed by the employer remain on the table as of today as our team is working on holding tight to the identified priorities of the RNs.

The employer has not yet offered an economic counter proposal stating that they are compiling data and hope to have that available at our next session.

WSNA has respectfully rejected the employer’s proposal to expand mandatory standby to Antepartum, Labor and Delivery, Mother Baby, Neonatal Intensive Care and Emergency Department.

We continue to work on contract clean up otherwise known as “Housekeeping” items.

Our next scheduled bargaining session is set for Tuesday, June 8.

We have a Local Unit Meeting scheduled to take place tomorrow at three different times to fit your schedules. On this meeting we will be discussing outstanding proposals by both WSNA and UWMC. We will also review UWMC financials, the economics of our wage proposal, and how they fit in with comparable wages at other local area hospitals.

The meeting will be via video teleconference and can be accessed by a link or by telephone. Contact one of your officers, your WSNA Organizer or WSNA Nurse Representative for the link if you have not received our reminder email.

When: Thursday, May 20
What time: 0800, 1600 and again at 2000 (you need only attend one meeting)

Joining this call will be your RN bargaining team members along with WSNA Attorney Linda Machia, WSNA Nurse Representative Ed Zercher, and WSNA Organizer Will Nesper.

This meeting is for WSNA registered nurses and WSNA staff only

If you are interested in getting involved and standing side by side with your registered nurse colleagues in making these negotiations successful, there are many things you can do:

  • Volunteer to be on our Contract Action Team (CAT) who meets biweekly on Thursdays at 1630 and 2030 on TEAMs and is the go-to group of RNs for updates and actions.
  • Talk with your fellow RNs about the value of their engagement and participation in this contract campaign
  • Round the Hospital with WSNA staff to inform RNs and receive valuable feedback for our Bargaining Team
  • Hand out flyers or post updates on bulletin board

If you are interested in participating in any way, contact WSNA Nurse Organizer Will Nesper at wnesper@wsna.org.
