Our Patients, Our Safety, Our Staffing Committee

You're Invited to Staffing Committee!

The Hospital Staffing Committee has started reviewing and voting on staffing plans. So far, plans for the peri-op and imaging services units have been tackled, and now it’s time to address the inpatient floors. On Monday, October 7th, the Committee will meet to discuss staffing plans for 2S, 3S, 4S, 5S, and the 7th, 8th, and 9th floors. These units represent the majority of nursing staff at SJMC, and we need you to be there. The committee will be meeting in the Medical Office Building conference room A (across from LabCorp, near the parking garage skybridge) from 0900-1200.

At the last meeting, Cath Lab nurses spoke up about the serious shortcomings in their staffing plan, sharing their experiences and concerns. Because of their advocacy, the plan was voted down, forcing management to go back to the drawing board and propose a better solution. This is what collective action can achieve — real change that puts patient care and nurse safety first.

The Committee comprises eight voting members from nursing staff (six WSNA, two SEIU), but it belongs to all nurses at the hospital. Your voice and perspective are crucial to shaping staffing decisions. Nurses have the power to speak up about their unit’s needs, and your presence makes an impact.

If you work on any of the med-surg units, show up on Monday and make your voice heard. To attend, email your nurse representative, Jared Richardson, at jrichardson@wsna.org.

Your voice matters. Together, we can ensure safe staffing and better working conditions for all nurses.

See it for Yourself: Come Observe Negotiations on 10/3!

We need as many observers as possible for tomorrow's sixth negotiation session. Negotiations will take place at 10:00am at the Marriott Hotel Downtown in the Point Defiance Conference room. There will be free parking on the second and third floors of the Marriott Tacoma Downtown Garage if you use the validation code 401003.

Observers make a huge difference in holding management accountable and keeping our process transparent. Please read this guide to observing negotiations before coming tomorrow!
