October update

Celebrating Indigenous People’s Day

This Monday, October 14th, Washington State proudly observes Indigenous People’s Day. We take this opportunity to recognize and honor the traditional lands of the Nisqually, Puyallup, Squaxin, Steilacoom, and Muckleshoot tribes—lands that we are privileged to live and work on today. These communities have been the stewards of Pierce County long before our time, with roots and connections that stretch back through the ages. As union members and allies, we are committed to standing in solidarity with Indigenous communities, acknowledging the deep historical injustices they have faced, and expressing our heartfelt gratitude for their continued care of the land we share.

Blood Drive: Nurses Helping Save Lives

At WSNA, we know that nurses are the heartbeat of healthcare, and our commitment to saving lives extends beyond the bedside. That’s why we’re teaming up with the Rainier Olympic Nurses Association to host a blood drive on Friday, October 18th, from 9 AM to 3 PM at Tacoma Community College. Every drop of blood counts, and your donation can make the difference between life and death for patients in need. This is a chance for us, as nurses, to lead by example and ensure our hospitals are equipped to provide critical, lifesaving care. To schedule your appointment, simply scan the QR code on the flyer below. Together, we can give the gift of life!

Get Involved: Hospital Staffing Committee Meeting

Strong, safe staffing levels are the backbone of quality patient care—and your voice matters! The next Hospital Staffing Committee meeting will be held on Thursday, October 17th, at 9:15 AM. Signs with links to the Zoom meeting are now posted in your work areas for easy access. We encourage all nursing staff to join us and take an active role in this important process. Whether you’ve attended before or are joining for the first time, your insights and experiences are vital to ensuring fair and safe staffing practices. Let’s come together, speak up, and make a difference for both our colleagues and our patients.
