Contract Enforcement: Grievances Filed
Posted Mar 14, 2025
We’ve heard that management is claiming our contract isn’t valid until it’s signed. That is false. When we ratified our contract on February 21, 2025, everything without a specific implementation date took effect immediately upon ratification.
Since then, hospital management has failed to uphold multiple provisions of our new contract. We have filed grievances and are demanding immediate action to ensure management follows the agreement both sides negotiated and approved.
Key Issues Under Grievance:
Low Census Violations
- The low census order changed from hours-based to date-based upon ratification. Any nurse placed on low census under the old system was wrongfully impacted. We have filed a grievance on behalf of all affected nurses.
- Our contract establishes a clear low census order:
- Nurses in overtime
- Volunteers
- Travelers
- Per Diem Nurses
- Nurses working above FTE
Equitable rotation of remaining nurses
Management has failed to follow this process, and we have filed a grievance to enforce the contract.
Premiums and Differentials Delay
Article 8.2 clearly states:
“Wage increases, longevity steps, and any other premiums/differentials set forth herein shall become effective at the beginning of the first full payroll period on or after the dates designated.”
- The designated date for our contract is February 21, 2025, meaning premiums and differentials should have been applied no later than the pay period beginning March 2, 2025.
- Management is wrongly delaying these payments until March 16, 2025. This is unacceptable. We have filed a grievance on behalf of all nurses, demanding full back pay to March 2.
Hospital Resource Pool (HRP) & Break Relief Pool (BRP)
- While the contract does not set a specific start date for these pools, management must move forward with implementation in a timely manner.
- We have a meeting next week to discuss rollout plans. If management drags its feet, we will have no choice but to file a grievance to enforce this provision.
Your Voice is Our Strength
Thank you to every nurse who has reported violations of our new contract. A contract is only as strong as our ability to enforce it. That enforcement starts with you. Keep bringing concerns to your local unit officers or email your nurse representative at jrichardson@wsna.org.
Stay strong. Stay united.
