Happy Public Health Nurses Week.

The national theme for Public Health Week 2021 is “Building Bridges to Better Health,” a recognition that making communities safe and healthy is public health’s top priority and that COVID-19 has made that even more important.

Our public health nurses have run testing sites and vaccination sites. You have gotten the word out on safety measures like social distancing and masking. At the same time, you have continued the important services you provide for all clients and communities, whether it is caring for inmates in detention facilities, visiting with pregnant women and children, working with the homeless, or tracing contacts of infectious people.

WSNA honors each and every public health nurse. You have been our rock during this difficult year.

Our sincere hope is that this pandemic has made the need for and value of public health so obvious that the state will finally provide the kind of stable funding we need to serve the public.

Are you interested in attending the 2021 Washington State Nurses Convention?

If you’ve never been able to fit the convention into your schedule or budget, this is your opportunity. This year, we’ll have a fantastic lineup of speakers presenting on important topics relevant to your practice, including how to achieve patient and workforce safety and how to create a culture of anti-racism in health care. Earn up to 8.25 CNEs!

Because of our move to a virtual convention, we’re able to offer registration for the low price of $50 for WSNA members (contact your WSNA nurse representative for the promotion code). Nonmembers are also encouraged to attend or better yet, complete a WSNA member application now to be eligible for discounted rate. To join, fill out this online PDF form, save the file, and email it to membership@wsna.org.

Officer update

Paul Kunkel, your WSNA chair officer has decided to retire. We want to thank him for his time serving as the chair for the Sea King staff unit and all the work that he has done advocating for the nurses of the unit and for the patients in which he has cared for. Paul, we wish you all the best in the next adventure of life, retirement.

In Solidarity,
WSNA Local Unit Officers; Tami Nesler, Carolyn Clark and Yolanda Morris
