Local Unit Officers

Your WSNA officers at Overlake are volunteer leaders elected or appointed by their WSNA member peers. This year’s negotiations have shown that there are Overlake RNs who care about the well-being and working conditions you share, are trusted, and respected by their peers to promote your collective agency in the workplace. Truly bringing a strong contract to life means the nurses stand in defense of it by running for office, participating in union committees, inviting their peers to become engaged members, and supporting the local unit’s goals.

Overlake RNs ARE WSNA

We are WSNA Overlake

In this way, the morale of the local unit is improved from within by knowing and exercising the rights you have as union nurses. The time is now to submit nominations for WSNA officers who will represent the RNs at Overlake for the next three years. Generally, the Co-Chairs, Secretary and Treasurer are expected to attend monthly virtual conference committee meetings where contract issues are discussed and is paid time. There is also a monthly virtual officer call. There is training and support for all positions. Don’t let the descriptions fool you, these positions can be a lot of fun, too! Which ones speak to you?

Co-Chairs (two positions): Each has the primary responsibility for leadership of the Local Unit in a shared manner. Presides at all meetings of the Local Unit. Chairs conference committee meetings. Upholds the rules and policies of WSNA and the Local Unit.

Secretary: Takes minutes at officer and conference committee meetings. May assist in writing communications to the local unit.

Treasurer: Has the primary responsibility of managing the appropriate use of local unit funds for purposes which support the local unit per WSNA policy and bylaws.

Grievance Officers: Are the first point of contact for nurses with questions about the contract and investigatory meetings. Works closely with the Nurse Rep to determine if a grievance exists and what next steps to take. No, you don’t need to be a contract expert 😊 but you will learn a lot!

Membership Officers: Work with WSNA staff to meet with new hires at orientation 1-2 times per month to share with them why being a union member matters so much, how to join and become an informed and engaged WSNA member at Overlake!

Only WSNA members may vote in officer elections. All those nominated who are open to running must be a WSNA member and must consent to serve before being listed on the voting ballot.

Submit nominations (including self-nominations) directly to the Nurse Rep Tara Barnes by email at tbarnes@wsna.org. Nominations will close September 13, 2024.

If you have questions about any of these positions, please feel free to reach out to the Nurse Rep or any current officer.
