Great news! We have a tentative agreement!

On March 21, we met with Overlake for second session to bargain the effects of their policy and practices related to body worn cameras (BWCs). We were able to come to a tentative agreement to secure clarity and guarantees that the WSNA represented nurses need and deserve.
For context: Overlake Security Officers have been using BWC for the past 15 months. Unfortunately, Overlake management previously issued a confusing set of guidelines about how such footage is utilized, and the conditions under which WSNA had a right to obtain footage. WSNA demanded to negotiate the effects of Overlake’s BWC policy to help ensure the fair use of such footage, and the Union’s access to footage to make sure all nurses are being treated fairly.
The Agreement includes the following commitments:
Overlake will provide access to WSNA upon request in the event that a nurse receives discipline and video footage is available. This access is essential to the Union’s ability to defend progressive discipline and just cause, which are guaranteed in our Union contract. This gives WSNA a greater ability to represent nurses than the policy or law would have.
Other points of discussion included a series of questions around the use of BWC’s. We have been clear that communication from Overlake thus far has not been sufficient, according to feedback from the nurses. Moving forward, Overlake has committed to adjusting and continuing communications, education and training.
The next step in ensuring we preserve our rights is voting to ratify this Memorandum of Understanding. Stay tuned for information regarding the vote for WSNA members in good standing.
