Nurse Staffing Committee Meeting Thursday – Important, Come Observe

Thursday, July 27, will be the first regular Nurse Staffing Committee meeting since prior to negotiations, as we do not meet regularly during contract negotiations. Management has informed us that they will be “beginning the discussion that may lead to the care model redesign in 7 Dally. As part of the process, we will be adding this as a topic at this month’s staffing committee meeting and soliciting feedback from staff.”

As many of you are aware, we fought hard during negotiations, to prevent management from unilaterally making changes to our staffing matrices.  It is now written in our contract in a Memorandum Of Understanding: Staffing Plan Changes that, “The hospital will present proposed changes to any staffing care model (i.e. team nursing/an integrated care model) to the staffing committee in accordance with RCW 70.41.420 and its successors.”  Changes to the staffing matrices must be approved by majority vote of the staffing committee delegates, which is made up of half bargaining unit nurses (8) and half management (8).   WSNA hopes this meeting to be truly informational and an opportunity for feedback, as we have been told; and not an attempt to steamroll management’s plans.

Join us as an observer at the Staffing Committee meeting; especially 7 Dally nurses.  Since they say they are soliciting feedback, we expect there will be an opportunity for you to voice questions and concerns.

There’s lots to talk about since ratifying our contract on June 29.  Bring your questions and concerns regarding the new contract. We are hearing your issues with the new Workday HRIS system and are hoping to have answers to many of your questions after Conference Committee (Labor/Management meeting) Thursday morning.  We will also be talking about what was discussed at Thursday morning’s Nurse Staffing Committee meeting.
