Virtual Sip-and-Chat Thursday August 10 at 8 p.m.
There’s lots to talk about since ratifying our contract on June 29. Bring your questions and concerns regarding the new contract. Your officers are interested in knowing the current issues on the units so we can bring them forward at the next Labor/Management Conference Committee meeting or the Nurse Staffing Committee meeting on August 24.
Join us for our twice monthly Sip-and-Chat this Thursday, August 10 at 8 p.m.
Seniority List
Due to the recent conversion of MultiCare’s HRIS system to Workday, it was necessary to convert your seniority from “hours based” to “date based.”
Such date shall be based on compensable hours which are then converted by a formula to a new date. This new “seniority hire date” will be your seniority date going forward. Compensable hours will not longer be a factor.
Seniority shall mean nurses’ continuous length of service as a registered nurse from most recent date of hire as a Full-Time or Part-Time nurse working in the bargaining unit. Seniority does not apply to nurses currently working as Per Diem.
For those hired July 2023 or later who are not on the list, your seniority date will be your date of hire.
Seniority shall not apply to a nurse until completion of the required probationary period. Upon satisfactory completion, the nurse shall be credited with seniority from most recent date of hire.
Comparing Seniority: Where bargaining unit seniority dates of nurses are the same, the order of the nurses on the seniority list will be determined as follows:
- A nurse with an earlier date of hire by MHS shall come first on the seniority list.
- If the seniority date and MHS date of hire are the same, then whichever nurse has the higher FTE will come first on the seniority list.
- If seniority date and MHS hire dates are equal and the FTE are the same, the nurse with the lowest ranking employee number shall come first on the seniority list.
You have until September 1, 2023 to challenge your new seniority date. Changes will not be made after September 1.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact WSNA Nurse Rep Janet Stewart at jstewart@wsna.org.
Note: The formula for conversion was using Excel Math to turn a date into a number for the day we stopped collecting compensable hours (July 1, 2023); then divided compensable hours by 1872 to turn it into years worked. These two values were subtracted and turned into date format to give a new seniority date based off of hours worked.
Keep in mind that time you may have taken off in the past (non-compensable hours) or converting from Per Diem to FT/PT and vice versa affect the formula.
Officer Elections
Your local unit officer ballots have been mailed to you. Please take a few moments to vote for your union officers (3 year term). Each ballot includes information about those running for office. Be sure to vote!
Ballots must be postmarked by August 18, 2023. If you did not receive a ballot, WSNA may not have your current mailing address. Please email jstewart@wsna.org to update your address. Only members in good standing are eligible to cast a vote.
Questions/Comments, please send to WSNA Nurse Representative Janet Stewart at jstewart@wsna.org.
