News You Can Use! Mark your calendar: Let’s get back to bargaining!

Bargaining resumes in September!

The bargaining team last met with Confluence on July 30. If you didn’t see that update you can find it and others on the WSNA Mares local unit page.  Save time and search WSNA Mares anytime to find this valuable information. Help others stay in the loop and ask a co worker if they are getting our updates? If they are not, text or email Jenny Galassi, 206-707-2948, jgalassi@wsna.org to be added to our group!

Both parties had scheduling conflicts in August and couldn’t find a date to meet. We return to the table Monday, September 9 and Wednesday, September 11!

Mares Campus nurses hangout at Wenatchee Valley Brewing!

Nurses from units across the facility came together August 8 for a meal and great conversation. Members of the bargaining team were there to update their coworkers on how negotiations are going and what they can do to help! They even had time to make a short video and send a message of support to another WSNA Local unit, Providence St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Medical Center in Spokane. The nurses at St. Luke’s are at the bargaining table as well and feeling the struggle. They appreciated the message of support!

Do you know of a good place to host our next get together? Let an officer or bargaining team member know. 😊 We hope to do to this again soon!

Oncology nurses and Nurse Navigators at the Mares, Omak and Moses Lake locations vote yes!

The 36 oncology nurses and Central’s bargaining unit held a vote on August 7 at four locations to cast their ballot. WSNA went to Moses Lake, Omak, Mares Campus and Central Campus. The nurses powerfully voted to pass a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that adds these 36 nurses to Central’s bargaining unit with stipulations unique to the work they do and size of their group. Key takeaways are that these nurses were added to Central’s hospital wage scale, received the retirement package and matching that Central nurses currently get and secured a voice in how weekend work will play out in the future. There is always more work to do, but this is a huge victory! Please welcome these nurses to WSNA!

How to support your bargaining team

  1. Wear BLUE on Fridays and bargaining days!  Wear your WSNA blue T shirt, blue scrubs, “I support the bargaining team” button or sticker to show you stand with your team. Take a picture with your coworkers and send it to a member of the bargaining team or Organizer Jenny Galassi, 206-707-2948.

We still have WSNA T shirts if you don’t have yours yet. Let an officer or bargaining team member know and we’ll get one to you before Sept. 9!

  1. Union Membership- Join WSNA today. When you become a member, it shows management that nurses are paying attention.

*Member dues cannot be deducted until we have a full tentative agreement on our first contract and your bargaining unit votes to approve it. We’ll let you know when that’s coming.
  2.  Observe bargaining- Attend a bargaining session as an observer and hear from Management yourself. This helps keep our process transparent and holds management accountable. Upcoming dates are Sept 9 and September 11. Haven’t observed yet and not sure what to expect? Sign up here and we will give you a call before our next session!

  1. Get social- Join our closed Facebook group for updates and ask questions.
    WSNA- Confluence Health Mares RNs.

  2. Stay informed- All updates are posted on your local unit page and are emailed to you as soon as they are available. Search WSNA Mares anytime to find it.
  3. Become a Unit Rep! Local unit liaisons help keep nurses on their unit informed. They function as a connection between your Local unit officers and the nurses on your unit, so everyone stays in the loop regardless of their shift, schedule, or FTE. If you read your emails and texts, attend bargaining as an observer, provide feedback to WSNA and your bargaining team, and know where the WSNA Mares Local unit page is, you are already doing the work and would make a great local unit liaison. Sign up for 1-hour virtual training to learn more about how you can help support your local unit. We still need Unit Reps/ Liaisons from all units.
