As Washington’s nurses face evolving challenges in the workplace and in healthcare policy, members of the Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA) will soon have the opportunity to shape the future of their association and profession.
The WSNA General Assembly, the governing body of the association, will convene at the Washington State Nurses Convention in Tacoma, April 30 – May 2, 2025. At the meeting, members will debate and vote on proposed resolutions that help define WSNA’s positions on key issues facing nurses. The discussion of proposed bylaws amendments will also take place, though final approval will be determined by a separate electronic vote of all members from May 26 – June 25, 2025.
A critical moment for WSNA members
The General Assembly is one of the most significant events in WSNA’s governance, providing members in good standing with the opportunity to weigh in on the association’s policy direction. Past resolutions have influenced WSNA’s stance on legislative priorities, workplace conditions, and professional standards.
For many members, the proposed bylaws amendments will be an area of particular focus. Developed by the WSNA Committee on Bylaws, the 2025 proposals are formatted differently than in previous years, grouping changes into motions by subject for clarity and efficiency. The full list of proposed amendments is available online, along with a redlined document showing changes in context.
What happens at the Convention vs. the electronic vote?
WSNA members will vote on resolutions during General Assembly at the Convention. However, the election of WSNA officers and the vote on bylaws amendments will take place electronically following the Convention, allowing all members across the state to participate.
Members will have the opportunity to meet the candidates running for WSNA offices at a Meet the Candidates session on April 30, where candidates will share their vision for WSNA’s future.
Once elected, the incoming WSNA Board of Directors will take approved resolutions into account as they set strategic priorities for the next two years, determining the focus of WSNA’s advocacy and professional development initiatives.
