2 WSNA members selected as 2024 American Academy of Nursing fellows

Nursing leaders Patsy Maloney and Jillian Pintye to be honored for their substantial impact on health and healthcare Oct. 31-Nov. 2

The American Academy of Nursing announced a distinguished cohort of nurse leaders as its 2024 Fellows, including two from Washington state -- Dr. Patsy Maloney and Dr. Jillian Pintye.

The inductees will be recognized for their substantial impact on health and healthcare at the Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference Oct. 31– Nov. 2, 2024, in Washington, D.C.

“Their expansive body of knowledge will soon bolster the collective impact of over 3,000 Academy Fellows who together, leverage their expertise to advance the Academy’s vision of healthy lives for all people,” the American Academy of Nursing announced in a release.

The newest fellows represent 37 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and 14 countries.

Patsy Maloney, EdD, RN-BC, NEA-BC, CEN

Dr. Maloney is a teaching professor at the University of Washington Tacoma and professor emeritus at Pacific Lutheran University, where she directed the Center for Continued Nursing Learning. She served in the Army Nurse Corps for over 20 years in various clinical areas and leadership positions from nurse manager to chief nurse and training officer.

She is past president of the Association for Nursing Professional Development, co-editor of the Nursing Professional Development (NPD): Scope and Standards of Practice, 3rd edition and 4th edition, and the NPD Anthology: Making a Difference, and served as the editor of the ANPD (Association of Nursing Professional Development) Update column and currently serves as the editor of the Scope and Standards Column for the Journal for Nurses in Professional Development.

Dr. Maloney earned her BSN from the University of Maryland (Walter Reed Army Institute of Nursing), her MSN and MA in behavioral science from the Catholic University of America and her doctorate from the University of Southern California.

Jillian Pintye, RN, MPH, PHD

Dr. Jillian Pintye is currently the Interim Associate Dean of Research and an Associate Professor at the University of Washington School of Nursing. She holds a joint appointment in the Department of Global Health at UW and is also a Research Associate with the Botswana Harvard Health Partnership.

Her research focuses on HIV and STI prevention and treatment, primarily among young women and pregnant populations. Dr. Pintye was a Peace Corps worker in Botswana where she developed her research passion for addressing HIV and sexually transmitted infections.

In 2023, she received a University of Washington Medical Center Endowed Professorship in Nursing Leadership and was cited for her ability to bring her robust experience into the classroom, inspire students, and advance nursing leadership.
Pintye received her BSN from La Salle University in Philadelphia, her MPH in epidemiology in the global health track from the University of Washington, and her PhD in nursing science from the University of Washington.
