Free Leadership Conference
Don’t miss WSNA’s premier labor training event at Campbell’s Resort on Lake Chelan. You’ll enjoy great trainings, networking, and loads of fun. If you are a union member, your WSNA officers are offering a sponsorship to a limited number of nurses who contact WSNA. This includes the conference fee, hotel and mileage reimbursement. Please contact your nurse rep, Sara Frey sfrey@wsna.org to add your name to the list and to receive instructions and a code for signing up. Be sure to put in for the time off now! If you are not a union member, you can join today!
The year 2023 was an incredible year for labor, and WSNA nurses are a part of that. Across the state we have fought hard and won some amazing contracts. Join us as we celebrate our victories, get an update on the national and state labor scenes, learn how to be more effective leaders in our own workplaces, and strategize for what’s coming next.
Nominate a champion of change by Feb. 16 – both individuals and teams – who stepped up as a union member. Awardees announced at the WSNA Union Leadership Conference in Chelan April 28-30.
Opportunities!
We are looking for nurses who would like to serve on the staffing committee. We need representation from each unit and need your voice to advocate for your unit’s staffing needs! The staffing meeting is held every third Wednesday of the month. You must be relieved from duty and this is paid time. If you are interested, please contact Luka Cobb lukamackay@gmail.com
Paycheck errors
Please be sure to check your paychecks! We are aware of some recent issues where the time clock system is not programmed to pay correctly:
- We have become aware that some day shift nurses are arriving at 6:30 am to start their shift but only receiving day shift pay. The 30 minutes from 6:30 to 7 am should be paid at the night shift rate. There are likely other scenarios where an 8-hour nurse may work a short period on evening or night shift and are eligible for shift differential on that time. If you are an 8 hour shift nurse and work more than 50% on an evening shift or night shift, you are paid the full 8 hours of evening or night shift differential. Ten and twelve hour nurses get shift differential for the hours worked on evening or nights. Please refer to your WSNA CBA Art. 8.6 Shift Differential and the 10 and 12 hour MOU at the back of the CBA. https://cdn.wsna.org/assets/local-unit-assets/whidbey-general-hospital/Whidbey-Contract-April-1-2022-%E2%80%93-March-31-2025.pdf
- Nurses are reporting that shift differential is not being paid on PTO hours and per the contract: 9.3 PTO Pay. PTO pay shall be the amount which the nurse would have earned had the nurse worked during that period at the nurse’s regular rate of pay.
- Nurses working callback are not getting double time when it is owed: Call Back: When called back to work from scheduled call time, hours worked will be paid at the rate of one and one-half (1-½) times for the first twelve (12) hours and double time for time in excess of twelve (12) hours in a twenty-four (24) hour period with a minimum of three (3) hours.
We are working with HR to resolve these issues. If you are not paid correctly, please contact your manger and copy WSNA. The time clock functions need to be corrected and we have asked HR to get this changed quickly.
Wage Reopener
Per your contract, it is time for a wage reopener. WSNA and the hospital will be bargaining over a possible wage increase above the 6% that will take effect on April 1, 2024. If you would like to participate in the important process of bargaining, please contact your nurse rep, Sara Frey, at sfrey@wsna.org.. Officers will then appoint members to the bargaining team.
You local unit officers – Luka Cobb, Gwen Parrick, Laura Black
