PeaceHealth Peace Island in Friday Harbor is starting negotiations for their contract this week. We have just come off a HUGE win at St. Joe’s in Bellingham so stay tuned and watch for updates out of Friday Harbor. As you know, our three NW facilities are connected in more ways than one and wins for both Joe’s and PIMC impacts our own United negotiations. (Which by the way is scheduled for next year so we will begin preparation this fall.)
Officers
We are sad to announce that Lacen has stepped down from her co-chair position on the officers’ team. She has put in so much of her own time and energy into helping all the nurses at United and we say a very heartfelt “THANK YOU” for this. Please let her know how much she is appreciated.
That leaves some vacancies on the officers’ team. We need your help! Here is where we can use your talents.
Co-Chair Officer - Your work will focus around keeping members informed and involved, ensuring that the Local Unit Rules are followed and that committees are functioning and accountable.
Co-Membership Officer - you are the first line to new hires and the voice of your local unit and WSNA. Your work includes being that welcome face to new nurses at United.
Communications Officer – Your work will include assisting with our Facebook Private group postings and membership, creating and posting flyers and announcements on unit bulletin boards. Really good role if you are “crafty” or creative.
Local Unit Rep – we need a point person on every unit that will act as a liaison between your officers, WSNA and your co-workers. Unit Reps (or Liaisons) are key leaders in helping to follow-up with the new nurse in their specific workplace area and to introduce themselves, assist in finding the location of the WSNA bulletin board, and reinforce the value of membership.
All of these positions have full training provided and currently this is virtual, so you are able to join from your private sofa in your slippers with a beverage of choice on hand. You also receive tremendous support from your current officers and WSNA staff. And the officers team currently is STELLAR and a fun, intelligent and committed group to work with.
If you are interested in being a voice for your co-workers and helping out your officers, please provide your name and contact information to any of the officers or email directly to Sue Dunlap your WSNA nurse representative. We would love to have you on the team!
Shannon Lauder, BSN, RN Co-Chair
Robyn G. Tilton, RN – Secretary
Shawna Smith BSN, RN – membership
