Bargaining update - contract negotiations 2025

We met with Management for an initial mini session on March 26 and then a second time for a full session on Thursday, April 10. We presented our initial proposals during our first session and in this second session we were able to reach agreements on some of our initial proposals. These include changes to grievance timelines and increased schedule posting timelines.

Some of our priorities this session:

Workplace Violence and Safety

Our first proposal on workplace violence includes:

  • Creating a separate Workplace Violence Prevention committee.
  • Creating a form for staff to submit for review by the committee for incidents of workplace violence to ensure review of the incident, mitigation of factors, and follow up with the employee who experienced workplace violence

Break Relief 

Currently the primary method for staff to receive a break is the “Break Buddy” system. We believe that it is not appropriate for staff to double their assignments in order for someone to receive a break. Our team proposed language requiring ratios to be maintained at all time and introduced the role of a resource nurse to facilitate break adherence while maintaining staffing ratios.
