Postponing August Local Unit Meeting
Posted Aug 18, 2020
WSNA and your Local Unit Officers met and decided to postpone the Local Unit meeting, previously scheduled for later this month. We recognize the value in open dialogue between members and the executive team and current circumstances will not allow us to come together in a large group, in one location.
We also wished to respect the rights of our bargaining unit members by protecting your ability to openly discuss important issues. We felt that the best way to ensure this was with an in-person meeting rather than with an App (i.e. Zoom) where identities are more difficult to verify.
The Local Unit meeting will be postponed until a time when we can be together as a group and engage in open communication about current issues and concerns at TG.
Updates
We have heard the concerns about staffing and management in the ED.
WSNA, SEIU, and staff nurses have taken steps to notify HR and upper management of the concerns taking place on this unit. A letter of no confidence was submitted by TG staff to bring attention to the deficiencies in this department.
WSNA will also be meeting with TG staff to discuss additional options in response to the staffing concerns in the ED.
We want you to know that this situation is being monitored closely and we are working on solutions that will benefit our nurses.
Upcoming Training
We are always looking for motivated people who would like to take a more active role in WSNA activities and leadership opportunities. If you have considered running for office, becoming a unit rep, or just want to know more about how your executive team works, feel free to sign up for Officer Training through WSNA. This is a virtual course taught by WSNA Reps.
Officer/ Grievance Officer Training: Tuesday, August 25 at 5:00 p.m.
If you are interested, please notify your Rep Brenda Balogh at bbalogh@wsna.org.
Upcoming Events
WSNA received a large donation of surgical masks from the American Federation of Teachers, an affiliate of WSNA. We would like to give back to our nurses and community by hosting a Masking Event near Tacoma General Hospital. The purpose is to provide masks to nurses, families, and the public because we care about the safety and well being of our community.
We will be partnering with the Pierce County Nurses Association, as well as nurses from CHI Franciscan Rehab.
This will be a full day event (or until we run out of masks) and we hope to make it a fun environment where you can speak to other members in your bargaining unit, other bargaining units, or ask questions of your new Nurse Rep, Brenda Balogh.
Place and time are still TBD, so keep an eye on your email, ask your Rep, or speak to your officers for updates on this exciting opportunity.
