Important staffing plan update and newsletter

Hospital management has proposed a revised staffing plan with recommended changes. Please take time and review your unit’s staffing plan and the proposed changes. Notable discussions in this committee include the change to a minimum number of CNAs, being 0 for the emergency department from 23-07. Management has expressed that a minimum number of 0 doesn’t mean that they won’t staff a CNA but leaves them room if someone calls off, they don’t have to replace them if they aren’t needed. Management also expressed that it may be common to low census or not replace the CNA during that time, but we have not received that understanding from our nurses. This plan still has a 0 for a CNA those hours between 23-0700.

The Surgical Services plan has been discussed at length relating to teasing out PACU and Endo nurses since that work is not a two-way street. In this current plan the minimum number reflected is inclusive of all services and doesn’t delineate between any service line. We would love to hear from surgical services staff on how they feel about this compared to the old plan. Find your unit’s plan here.

We have published your most recent newsletter as well and you can read that here! This newsletter includes contract language on how to make overtime and double time premium, recent contract violation wins (grievances), information on how your union is fighting back against unilateral changes to the low census process, and a recap of our free sno-cone event for nurses! One of your Pullman nurses, Jeanna Wilson, brought her Sno-Zone truck to the hospital and helped make and deliver delicious treats to colleagues.
