Bargaining update - Day 8
Posted Sep 19, 2024
Yesterday we met with a Federal Mediator for the first time. While we can’t share specifics about proposals and discussions passed for the first time during mediation, we can share that we had some good discussions and continued to make slow progress. “Work on day off” continues to be a hot topic of conversation. Use this link to a survey that we are conducting related to “work on day off.” We need to know how important that provision of the contract is to you, as it’s one of the major issues standing in the way of a deal.
We meet with management and the federal mediator again on Monday and will work hard to get an agreement that you will all vote YES on. However, we won’t accept a subpar tentative agreement just for the sake of getting a deal. If we don’t come to an agreement on Monday, expect to see pledges to picket begin to circulate as soon as Tuesday and plan on participating in an informational picket in the weeks to follow. Management continues to insist that they too want a deal on a contract prior to the expiration of our contract, so we hope to get to the finish line next week.
Did you know that the law restricts when mandatory OT may be used including mandatory call back that triggers OT?
