Hospital lockdown update and next steps

WSNA and your officers at Peace Island are aware of the situation the other day that resulted in the hospital lockdown. We have received ADO / Staffing Concern forms about that day. We are also aware that a debrief or RCA was done with input from leadership, caregivers, security from St. Joseph’s and other personnel. WSNA is also aware of the email that was sent to all staff from Jack Estrada outlining the great work everyone did on that day and citing that no harm ensued as a result.

We echo the sentiment of gratitude for no injuries to staff, patients or visitors. However, we want to acknowledge that significant gaps existed in the protocol (or lack thereof), process and especially communications surrounding this event. We believe that there is a concerted effort being made to correct the deficits that this incident unveiled. Your WSNA officers will be working collaboratively and diligently with leadership on resolutions so stay tuned for updates.

While we are working with management to resolve, there are two direct links enclosed in this update, one to Department of Health (DOH) and the other to Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH). These links have been requested and any caregiver may file with these agencies – it does not have to come from WSNA office. Please feel free to reach out to any officer or your nurse rep Sue Dunlap for any questions or concerns.

The above link is for WORKER safety. When the hospital fails to provide measures to protect the workers. i.e. inadequate PPE, no notification of COVID positive patients, no fit testing, no training on hazardous cleaning materials etc., Workplace violence etc.

This is for violations that threaten the safety of patients at the facility. This is like unresolved staffing issues or staffing committee complaints or any other things that put the patient at risk.
