We have an agreement on an extension of the Extra Shift Bonus Memorandum of Understanding!

WSNA and Grays Harbor Community Hospital have come to agreement on an extension of the Extra Shift Bonus MOU. Nurses will continue to receive $400 Extra Shift Bonus Pay for picking up a 12-hour shift in the CCU or ED.

Under the Extra Shift Bonus Pay MOU, nurses receive the $400 bonus under the following conditions:

  • It must be for a 12-hour shift in the ED or CCU.
  • The extra shift must be beyond the nurse’s regular FTE.
  • The nurse must work all assigned hours in that pay period in order to receive the bonus, except for regularly scheduled vacation days or days on which the nurse is low censused. However, the bonus would not be paid if a nurse later called out sick during that pay period.
  • A bonus shift will not count as a consecutive day for purposes of consecutive shift pay. This means that if a bonus shift is the fifth day worked in a row for instance, and a nurse had a regularly scheduled shift on the day after the bonus shift, consecutive day pay would not be owed for the bonus shift or for any days worked afterward.
  • If a nurse working a bonus shift is low censused, they will still receive the bonus.
  • The MOU requires bonus shift to be paid through Feb. 28, unless the parties agree to extend it.

How shifts will be awarded:

  • Management will send a text message to announce when a bonus shift is available.
  • Bonus shifts will be awarded equitably to volunteers, and the hospital may consider experience, skills, and qualifications.

Note that while the MOU only requires that Extra Shift Bonus Pay be paid for open shifts in the ED and CCU, the MOU provides that if “a unit is experiencing significant staffing issues, management may designate a shift as eligible for incentive payment even if outside the parameters of this agreement.
