End of year update

Wishlist MC

It's been an extremely busy year for Good Sam WSNA leadership. Since the contract was ratified in June 2023, it's been one battle after another trying to get MultiCare to abide by our contract - the contract which we were willing to go on Strike for.  Our biggest priorities were Safe Staffing and Break Nurses.

Regarding Safe Staffing: Washington State passed the Safe Staffing Law. The nurse staffing committee became the Hospital Staffing Committee, and now includes the CNA and LPN unions. This group, along with the unit based staffing committees have spent countless hours working on Staffing Plans over the past several months, just to have their hard work rejected by the hospital president. The frustration level is through the roof.

We've had to fight for the following things:

  • Safe staffing with enough staff, resources/flex, and break nurses
  • Cessation of the Hospital Staffing Committee approved break nurse shifts
  • Improper Low Census order
  • Scheduling system float and international nurses ahead of core staff
  • Denial of $5/hour staffing standard premium
  • Denial of rest between shift pay
  • Denial of consecutive weekend pay for extra pick-up shifts
  • Refusal to provide the contractual wellness plan which allows for discounted health care premiums

Stay tuned for updates on our union grievances and staffing plans, and ways you can get involved in our fight for better contract enforcement.

In the meantime, enjoy this holiday season to the fullest. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or simply the joy of the season, we wish you peace, happiness, and a wonderful New Year. Together, let’s make 2025 a year of unity, strength, and progress.

Don't forget BLUE FRIDAYS - Wear your WSNA T-shirts in Solidarity of our union members and for the enforcement of our contract.
