Bargaining update
Posted Mar 31, 2023
Today, March 31st, is our ninth day of negotiations and the last day of the contract (with very rare exceptions, nothing will change in your work, your compensation, or any other terms or conditions of your employment). Over the last sessions, we have told MultiCare about the critical need for safer staffing and breaks. Nurses have shared deeply personal stories, we’ve showed them the data, and it’s still not enough for them. This means it’s time to take the next step: We’re launching an informational picket pledge.
Sign the pledge and to ask your coworkers to do the same! Our coworkers, patients, and community deserve better than what MultiCare is offering. The link to the picket pledge is below. Print it out, sign it, and follow the instructions to get it back to WSNA Organizer Grace so we can make sure your pledge counts in our official tally. The form must have a “wet signature” – it’s not an online form.
Know your rights!
We hear management has been telling people they can’t sign picket pledges or discuss union activities on the floor. IT IS YOUR PROTECTED RIGHT UNDER FEDERAL LABOR LAW to engage in union activity as long as it is not interfering with patient care and it has been normal practice in your workplace to discuss non-work related things.
For example - If you can talk to a coworker about your weekend or sign a birthday card for someone, then you can discuss union negotiations AND sign a picket pledge. Keep in mind that this should not interfere with patient care.
If management speaks to you or gives you guidance for doing this, email your union representative asap at jstewart@wsna.org
Stay in the loop:
We do not have a specific time or date for the picket yet: the logistics will depend on how our next bargaining sessions go. Stay in the loop about what’s happening by following our social media: @GSHnurses on Instagram, and Good Samaritan Nurses on Facebook. Check your email for updates from WSNA, and keep attending our Thursday night sip and chats to hear the answers directly from the bargaining team!
Thursday Night Virtual Sip and Chat 8:00 - 9:00 p.m.
