Bargaining update

We met Friday, Dec. 12, for contract bargaining session #6. The Employer began the day by rejecting ALL the proposals we last made on Nov. 5. The employer made a single proposal on wages of 2% each year for the next 3 years. That's still below the cost of living and is simply not enough.

We came back to the table with a revised proposal and suggested that rather than continue traditional negotiations, that we contact a Federal Mediator to help resolve our contract dispute.

We hope to schedule our next session in mid to late January, pending the availability of the mediator.

Actions you can do:

  • Sticker up every day at work. Wear your WSNA stickers, badge reels, badge buddies and buttons. You can find them on your WSNA bulletin board. If you have a WSNA T-shirt, wear it at work.
  • Fill out ADOs (Assignment Despite Objection forms) for unsafe staffing.  https://www.wsna.org/union/ado
  • If you feel intimidated from management about your Union Support, please notify your Nurse Representative immediately. That won't be tolerated.

Announcing Nurse Representative Change

WSNA Representative Stephenie Troftgruben has been a registered nurse for eleven years and WSNA Nurse Rep for almost 4 years. Her background is Adult ICU nursing. She served as a WSNA officer at Good Samaritan hospital in Puyallup before coming to work at WSNA. She has represented the Harbor Regional nurses in Aberdeen and the University of Washington Northwest Hospital nurses.  She is passionate about protecting the rights of nurses under their contract and under the law and will be a strong advocate for you.

Should you have an issue you would like to address, please send an email to STroftgruben@wsna.org.

Janet Stewart has enjoyed representing you over the past 4 ½ years and will sincerely miss you. She will remain with you through negotiations along with Stephenie, though Stephenie will be handling the day-to-day union business. Janet will still work for WSNA representing other WSNA facilities nearby.

Document unsafe conditions

If you find yourself in a situation that you believe creates unsafe conditions for patients or for you, you should complete a Staffing Complaint / ADO Form as soon as possible.

By completing the form, you will help make the problem known to management, creating an opportunity for the problem to be addressed. Additionally, you will be documenting the facts, which may be helpful to you later if there is a negative outcome.

WSNA also uses your ADO forms to track the problems occurring in your facility. When you and your coworkers take the important step of filling out an ADO form, you are helping to identify whether there is a pattern of unsafe conditions for you or your patients at your facilities. This information is used by your conference committee, staffing committee, and WSNA labor staff to improve your working conditions.
