WSNA Union-provided mask and face shield distribution
Posted Aug 21, 2020
WSNA Union-provided mask and face shield distribution happening on Thursday, August 27 from 8 a.m. to noon
WSNA will be distributing surgical masks donated by our national union the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) at the parking lot of Madison House, 12215 NE 128th Street, located directly across from the central entrance of Evergreen health.
In May, Gov. Inslee issued a proclamation providing guidance on how and when facilities can safely resume certain surgeries and procedures. WSNA worked closely with the governor to shape this guidance, bringing forward your concerns about PPE and safe working conditions. WSNA Executive Director Sally Watkins served on the Governor's task force and ensured that strong language about PPE was included.
WSNA will continue to monitor compliance closely and hold employers accountable if they do not adhere to the new proclamation/directive. We will need to remain vigilant - report to your Nurse Representative, Bret Percival, at bpercival@wsna.org or call 206-575-7979 ext. 3063 if you feel Evergreen is not following guidance.
Also, submit an online ADO in just minutes to document each occurence - https://www.wsna.org/union/ado.
WSNA has issued a statement calling for monitoring of current PPE and a return to conventional guidelines so that our members and patients are safe. No nurse should have to reuse soiled or broken masks! WSNA has secured these thousands of masks and face shields through AFT so they can be used by you and your family out in the community.
We will be distributing masks outside of Madison House from 8 a.m. to noon, or as supplies last, on Thursday, August 27. Please observe social distancing and wear a mask per public health guidelines. We look forward to seeing and talking with you!
Please spread the word to your co-workers, including non-RN employees. We know techs, HUCs, maintenance, service and other staff have also been forced to reuse masks for too long. Stay strong through these challenging times. For questions regarding this distribution event, contact Nurse Organizer Tara Barnes at 206-713-2241.
