Member Spotlight: Your WSNA Local Unit Co-chair
Hi, my name is Chris Gallup, I am the Registered Nurse First Assist for the Mares campus. When I am not at work I love hiking, backpacking, and traveling. Last month I went to Kenya and had probably the third (I have two children and should probably count them) most amazing experience of my life. Seeing these animals in their natural habitat is surreal. If you see me around, please feel free to ask about it, I will gladly talk your ear off. Like many other nurses in Wenatchee, nursing is my second career. In 2001 I was working for a company that manufactured aerospace parts and was laid off. I used this opportunity to start college and begin something new. I was interested in nursing for several reasons. The Nursing field is vast with so many choices and I enjoy helping people. The operating room is my realm, I love being my patients advocate during a time that they are at their most vulnerable. I find the human body fascinating and I am constantly in awe of the work that the anesthesiologists and surgeons do. I feel fortunate to be a vital part of that team and helping to heal our patients. Now on to the union stuff. I am one of the WSNA Local Unit Officer Co-chairs for our union. Thank you for the opportunity to represent all of you, I will do my best. We are looking for nurses from all the other departments to come together and help with the bargaining process. Your input is vital to making sure that the parts that make us different are maintained in your area. The nurses in your department are the subject experts. We ask you to please share your knowledge with us. If you are interested, we have a Labor 101 Training on Teams coming up on October 30, 2023, 7:00-8:00pm. We will be discussing our roles in the union and our rights. We are strongest together, please think about getting involved. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out, my email is cgalluprn@gmail.com, I hope to hear from you.
We need your involvement! We are stronger together. Reach out to any of your Local unit officers or WSNA staff to ask how you can support bargaining your first contract! Want to observe negotiations? We are building that list now too.
In Solidarity,
