Urgent Update: Nurse Recognition Bonus!
Posted Aug 3, 2022
Your bargaining team was notified that the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (PAO) has an issue with the language in the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that the King County Office of Labor Relations negotiated with WSNA.
Per the county, “The Nurse Recognition Bonus MOA was subject to standard legal compliance review that occurs with all labor agreements that require King County Council ratification. The PAO determined the MOA had insufficient consideration and represented a “gift of public funds.”
Therefore, the team will have to negotiate a new MOA. The county has signaled that the new MOA will be more favorable to all.
You may wonder why this could happen because the bargaining unit has already ratified the tentative agreement. That is but one piece of the ratification process for all county contracts and MOAs. The King County Executive’s office receives the information and then it is transmitted to the King County Council. The King County Council then gives their approval. It is then transmitted to the county exec for signature.
Your WSNA officers will continue to advocate for all the nurses here at Public Health Seattle King County.
If you have any questions please reach out to one of your officers.
In solidarity,
Your Staff Officers
Tyler Breier, Chair; Tami Nesler and Carolyn Clark, Grievance Officer
