Negotiation update - Day six
Posted Dec 20, 2022
We asked. You delivered!
Congratulations Providence Sacred Heart Nurses! At the start of the sixth day of negotiations, your WSNA Negotiating Team delivered to management petitions demanding a fair contract, signed by nearly 90% of the bargaining unit.
We are ONE!
We started off the day presenting powerful stories and testimonies from guest nurses from the float pool and units with scheduled call. These nurses detailed the challenges and hardships they face working in these two areas and impressed upon management what they endure each day as they remain dedicated to Sacred Heart and the community they serve. We also explained how the float pool and units with scheduled call save Sacred Heart money on staffing as a result of these nurses’ willingness to be flexible as to when and where they work. As a result of our advocacy at the table, management expressed a willingness to institute a float pool premium and to increase the standby rates.
We also touched upon other areas of compensation, including increases in charge nurse pay and preceptor pay. We further proposed to make the incentive MOU permanent and to include in it a provision stating that use of PTO-Safe Sick leave does not render a nurse ineligible to receive incentive pay.
While Sacred Heart increased its wage proposal to roughly 11% in the first year, 4% in the second year and 3% in the third year, it is not enough. There is still more work to be done as we bargain for ALL WSNA nurses.
At this time, we are in the process of securing additional dates as we continue to fight for the best deal possible for our nurses. We have asked management to extend the contract while we continue our negotiations.
Stay tuned as to how you can continue to support our efforts at the table.
Tuesday, blues day continues! Every Tuesday, wear your blue and button up! Until we get a final agreement, we will continue to show management we are united.
