COVID MOU update

Over the past month, your WSNA officers and Nurse Rep have been working hard around the clock, diligently on language to secure as it pertains to a COVID incentive pay MOU. We realize time is of the essence and have made this a top priority each and every day. We have provided Providence with a counter to their original MOU and at this time, we are waiting to hear back from them. While we know this process is never quick enough, we want to ensure all of the hardworking frontline nurses, we are working to stay on top of this issue in real time.

What is involved in the MOU process, and why does it take so long?
Similar to negotiations, when language is bargained it goes through a process of one party providing the other party with a draft. The receiving party reviews the draft, along with their team, and discusses what changes they would like to see before passing it back. This step can take some time, as there are a lot of factors to consider, and it’s important to make sure it’s done right. Once the counter is formulated by the full team, and there is consensus with those involved, it is submitted to the other party.

This process continues this way, back and forth, until a final agreement is reached. Because networking with the various team members, and capturing all critical feedback is important, it can take some time. However, it’s a valuable step, and one that must be taken to get the best final agreement possible.

Will the holidays stall the process?
No. Your local unit officers and Nurse Rep have worked endlessly managing this process, and continue to offer their time and dedication to get a final agreement. In addition, WSNA is committed to this process and committed to securing an MOU as soon as we can. Because of this, we will be working through the holidays, remaining on call for this important task, and responding as needed, as quickly as we can.

We recognize your dedication and hard work supporting your families during this pandemic. If you have any questions on where we are in the process, you are free to reach out to one of your Local Unit Officers, or your Nurse Rep Jaclyn Perkins BSN, RN at jperkins@wsna.org, and we will do our best to respond to you as quickly as we can.
